Book Review - Liar's Poker by Micheal Lewis

Liar's Poker by Michael Lewis

I should have read this book at least 15 years ago. There's loads of wisdom and learning for people from any function, particularly, HR and sales. As an HR person, I learnt about compensation and reward strategies, hiring, and organization culture.

His writing style makes this an enjoyable read, where you also get to laugh. He's given a complete breakdown of how greed works in the financial system. Having read this, you will see parallels with the 2008 financial collapse.

This is a must read for students / professionals in the financial sector, as well as HR and senior management.

Mindset and Emotions

In response to a query on LinkedIn, I said -
I think mindset and emotion are interlinked.  One can drive the other.  If a mindset is a set of ideas and beliefs, contradictions to them will generate emotions that are likely to be negative.  Whereas confirmation of another person's mindset as similar to our own will generate positive feelings, and reinforce the beliefs about that mindset.  Perhaps this can be part of a fixed mindset?

A growth mindset is likely to not get too affected by emotions, because it is willing to be open- minded, accepting of different views, and explore possibilities, especially to establish new ground which can be common to both parties.

Just my thoughts.

7 ways emotionally intelligent people handle workplace pressure

Here's an excellent article on one of my favourite topics "Emotional Intelligence".

A line from the article is given below:
"We feel before we think. When our emotions overwhelm us, we are in danger of reacting from our emotions."
