Most organizations are conscious about their marketing brand, but few pay attention to their brand as an Employer.
During his HR stint, Ryan noticed that hiring managers (both HR & non-HR) give scant attention to their behaviour during the hiring process, particularly interviews, and at times, end up leaving the candidate with a negative experience - whether or not they were selected. Since bad news travels fast, and sites like Glassdoor allow employees to anonymously review their organizations, this has in turn, affected the available candidate pool in terms of both quality and quantity.
Additionally, he realized that most managers are not formally trained to interview candidates, but rely on their interview experiences for input to conduct interviews. Whether we like it or not, the Employer Brand experience starts from the time the candidate enters the office for their first interview.
This line of thinking in hiring was not considered about 30 years ago when job opportunities were few. In today's fast-paced, internet-fueled world, the organization stands to lose a great deal in terms of capable millenial candidates who will not accept such treatment, along with possibly having to pay a higher premium for positions that aren't so critical.
Therefore he designed workshops on hiring and interviewing skills in 2 formats:
1) A Two day workshop where managers (all functions) gain a better understanding of how they can create a great employer branding experience during the interview stage, and hire the right person simultaneously, instead of waiting for the employer brand experience to start from the date of joining.
